It is OK.

Building Societies

Yorkshire Building Society

I come from Dublin Ireland and have recently relocated to Brighton. I spent weeks attempting to set up a UK bank account receiving a negative response from most of the established bank including the Co Op bank and METRO ...I am a professional person who has always had,a,good credit record and found the experience exhausting and humiliating. I finally approached the YORKSHIRE BUILDING SOCIETY where the manager Ian was extremely helpful and respectful and got an account set up for me on the spot. Within 2 days I had received my bank card and have found all the staff extremely supportive and efficient . I would highly recomment the YORKSHIRE BUILDING SOCIETY to anyone particularly to individuals from outside the UK who need to set up a basic bank account in Britain , quickly and without fuss... Dental Surgeries

Preston Park Dental Clinic

6th Floor, Preston House, 177 Preston Rd, Brighton BN1 6AG, UK – 01273 504245

I recently changed to this Clinic and I am glad that I did. The dentist I see is professional, caring and efficient. Everything is fully explained before treatment and I am confident the work will be carried out to a high standard.

Friendly, helpful with excellent advice and guidance. Clean and professional and most importantly, consistent with it. Very much recommend them.

Morley Street Dental Clinic

The School Clinic, Morley St, Brighton BN2 9DH, UK – 01273 692549

It's because dental place that I've actually been to as disabled person without being harassed in some sort of way! Dentists here are a very accommodating and have a lot of accessibility equipment that can actually tip wheelchairs backwards if you use a wheelchair! There is also a lower desk area for when you need to speak to reception :) However they don't take new patients unless you get referred by your GP! One more thing they have tooth brushes and other dental equipment for you to buy, just like any other dentist.

Wonderful surgery with lovely staff

The Implant Centre

Nice view and good service

Beaconsfield Medical Practice

175 Preston Rd, Brighton BN1 6AG, UK – 01273 552212

I have a really complicated medical condition & history. This is by a mile the best doctor's surgery I have ever had. Dr Bird is a person who seems to actually care... recommended all my family & friends to go here & all pleased with it! Not sure why 'Rog's Doctor' comes up with this phone number? 5 stars easy!

Very nice practice, shame it plays loud radio piping advertisements and beats to distract you from trying to think about the problem before consultations. Nice staff.

Hove Park Villas Surgery

18 Hove Park Villas, Hove BN3 6HG, UK – 01273 776245

Recently registered myself and family with this surgery. Totally surprised by a gp surgery that has wonderful, empathetic reception staff that are efficient, friendly and helpful and a great gp.

I've always had great experiences here, with all the doctors I've seen over the past 5 years.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

The Montefiore Hospital

2 Montefiore Rd, Hove BN3 1RD, UK – 01273 828120

Superb hospital, I have visited as an outpatient and inpatient and always received a very friendly and professional service. The nurses are fantastic! I had a breast reduction last year and was in for 1 night. I could not fault it, very clean, inviting and felt reassured I was in capable hands. The food was also excellent!

I had appointments and an MRI Scan here last year. I must say my experiences were 5 star and I couldn’t find fault in anything. Thank you for such a hassle free hospital visit.

Reach Physiotherapy

101 Dyke Road City Centre Dyke Rd, City Centre, Brighton BN1 3JE, UK – 01273 732835

Before going to see Antony at Reach Physiotherapy I had never used physiotherapy services before. Initially I was a bit apprehensive, however within the first session, he not only found the cause of my shoulder pain, but explained to me what the correct medical term for it was and how he planned to heal it. He explained what he was doing each session and why, which made me feel a lot more at ease with it all. After going to see Antony I can't believe I put it off for so long. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

You should see it! Lovely and clean. I like yoga classes in the quiet room downstairs. Anthony is really what he says in his everyday life, practicing fitness and health.

The Hove Clinic

40 Wilbury Rd, Hove BN3 3JP, UK – 01273 733830

St Michael's Church

Victoria Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 3BD, Brighton BN1 3HJ, UK – 01273 822284

St Michaels & All Angels is two churches in one, the first being by Bodley in 1862 and the enlarged "new" church being by Burges and completed in 1893 after his death. It is known as "the cathedral of the backstreets" for its astounding architecture in the style of Amiens Cathedral and others. This Grade one listed building's main claim to fame is the stunning Pre-Raphaelite glass by Wiliiam Morris, Burne -Jones, Rossetti, Philip Webb and others. I recommend a visit on Saturday between 10 am and 4pm; preceded by a superb fried breakfast in the adjacent hall between 9am and 10.30 am

Great place to get inspired and find asll you need for an awesome diy project. Staff are really helpful and experienced. Well worth a visit... Or three!

What an amazing place....if you like wood! Really helpful staff, great service and a great price...

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Brighton

The Little Fish Market

A fantastic fish restaurant. Great, creative set menu which focuses on fresh local fish. Also have well chosen wine pairings for each dish on the menu. Relaxed atmosphere with really outstanding service, I look forward to coming back!

Beautifully presented food. Top quality ingredients. Varied wine list. Amazingly elegant service. This night was an experience, so much more than just a meal. Highly recommend getting a coffee!

Tookta's Thai Food

30 Spring St, Brighton BN1 3EF, UK – 01273 748071

Food was very fresh and well presented. The taste was amazing. One of the best Thai meals I have had in a long while. Make sure you call ahead a few nights in advance as the place is small, so you may not get seated if you just walk in.

Great place for Thai food. There is a bit of a wait for miains, so you may want to order starters if you want to snooze that initial hunger. The food is definitely worth the wait as the cuisine is fresh and full of flavour a real taste of Thailand. The word has spread quickly so it's worth booking or coming before peak.

Jack & Linda Mills Traditional Fish Smokers

Kings Road Arches, Brighton BN1 1NB, UK – 01273 723064

A great little place on the seafront that serves great food. It’s simple which is great as the fresh fish on offer is all the flavour you need and it’s all freshly prepared by the really friendly and welcoming couple that run the business. I’ve lost count of he number of visits I’ve made but every time it is excellent.

Fantastic place. Family owned. Full of delicious, fresh, tasty, fun food. Ideal for picnics on the beach, yards away, or sit at one of their outside tables. If you love fish, then this is for you. Easy access.

Nursery and Preschools

Robins Nursery School Ltd

Eaton Rd, Hove BN3 3PB, UK – 01273 725600

My son (who is profoundly deaf and has severe learning difficulties) attended here for 2.5 years- From the beginning it was so welcoming and the staff were superb. I always felt that they went over and above to support him in his learning and worked closely with all the professionals. He loved it and he a pretty demanding customer! Couldn't rate this place any higher. xx

My daughter went to Robins for two years and loved it. We had just moved to Brighton, she visited several other nurseries with me and kept crying and hanging on to me. At Robins she started playing immediately and almost forgot I was there on her first visit. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They felt like family - but highly qualified and knowledgeable. They helped my daughter grow and learn whilst having a lot of fun, and helped me too, as they are all so experienced. The atmosphere in the nursery is calm and stimulating, and every child is made to feel special. Lovely nursery and people, can't recommend enough!

Primary and Secondary Schools

Windlesham School Brighton

190 Dyke Rd, Brighton BN1 5AA, UK – 01273 553645

Both my children have attended Windlesham school over the last 10 years. They are both very different children but both have had extremely positive experiences in the Windlesham environment. They have been treated as individuals and have been encouraged to develop their own talents both academically and across a diverse extra curricular programme. The school is growing from strength to strength providing a robust learning experience in a creative and relaxed environment. The recent leadership change has been a smooth transition and is already delivering new exciting initiatives for pupils and families.

Such a fantastic school, from the personal greeting each morning at the Welcome Gate, to the nurturing and caring environment provided by the teachers at the school. My children really enjoy the time they spend here, learning in a way that exites and keeps them engaged.

Hillside School

Foredown Rd, Portslade, Brighton BN41 2FU, UK – 01273 416979

Great little school.

The Brighton & Hove Montessori School

67 Stanford Ave, Brighton BN1 6FB, UK – 01273 702485

I love this school.. to me it's exactly what a school should be. It's like a family more than an 'institution' and as a parent you feel very much in touch with the running and decision making. You are listened to and respected and yet not 'pandered to'. It's small and intimate but not cliquey or exclusive. I've really grown to love Daisy who runs the school.. she's a unique strong woman who doesn't take any BS and cares passionately about the emotional health of the children. She has been doing this for a long time and that stamina and love for what she does cannot be faked. Supported by Gerry they make a great team. Watching them work together is a real breath of fresh air.. no office politics, just mutual respect. Our child has been at the school for 2 years now and he has gone from a reluctant attendee to absolutely loving it. The respect and encouragement he gets is literally priceless. Ben who teaches the over 6s upstairs is lovely and gentle. Our boy is 5 so is still a part of the 'Children's House'. Elani is his teacher and we feel totally blessed that she is part of his life. Our son is smitten! Elani's understanding of children is profound. We have had a couple of meetings with her and both times have been blown away by her insights. What's best is that on top of all the important education stuff you can have a good laugh with the whole team.. there's no aloofness or stand offishness. All in all it's a tippety top cracker..

My son was very happy and gladly went to school at this school. We had our ups and downs but all in all, it was a happy experience

Public & Preparatory Schools

The Drive Prep School

101 The Drive, Hove BN3 6GE, UK – 01273 738444

I cannot emphasise enough how brilliant this school is! Children's wellbeing is really at the heart of this school, they feel safe, liked supported, valued and so they inevitably engage better with the learning process, become more curious and enthusiastic about subjects. My children are really happy here and as a parent so am I.

Great school warm and friendly atmosphere my son like the school nice helpful teachers everything is great

Bartholomews Tutorial College

Bartholomews Tutorial College, Prince Albert St, Brighton BN1 1HF, UK – 01273 205965

I retook my exams at Bartholomews Tutorial College in 1994 to 1995, very glad to see it still going strong! The staff got me through my GCSEs as I had some 'problems' at the school I went to - not naming names! I would've failed otherwise, no doubt. I work in private health care now. Thanks Bartholomews College, keep up the good work! x
